 Newark, NJ (February 27, 2026) – Three children were seriously injured on Wednesday morning, February 25, after a crash involving three vehicles on Clinton Avenue, following a high-speed chase connected to an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operation.

According to Newark Police, the crash occurred at approximately 8:30 a.m. at the intersection of Clinton Avenue and Shanley Avenue. A gray van, attempting to evade ICE agents, struck a red Toyota RAV4 carrying three children. The van then collided with an Uber vehicle transporting three other children to school. The driver of the van was arrested at the scene. The children in the Uber, named McKenzie Fontage and her brothers, Ma’Kai and E’yon Fontage, were transported to University Hospital with serious injuries. 

Traffic on Clinton Avenue was briefly impacted while emergency crews, including fire and EMS units, assisted the injured and secured the scene. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the crash and are awaiting additional information from the Department of Homeland Security regarding the ICE operation and subsequent arrest.
