We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Ms. Bedoya during this challenging time.
Fatal Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accidents in New Jersey
Pedestrian deaths remain one of New Jersey’s most serious traffic safety challenges. Every year, hundreds of pedestrians are injured or killed statewide, with dense areas like Hudson County facing higher risks. Hit-and-run crashes are especially tragic because the lack of immediate help can turn survivable injuries into fatal ones.
These incidents often occur when drivers fail to yield at intersections or ignore traffic signals. Poor lighting, reduced visibility, and heavy evening traffic add to the danger for those walking along busy streets. Distraction behind the wheel also leaves little room to react to pedestrians in crosswalks.
Losing a loved one in a sudden crash leaves families facing deep emotional pain and lasting grief. The loss often disrupts every part of life, from daily routines to long-term financial stability. Many families struggle to cope with the absence of comfort, guidance, and the support their loved one once provided.
Under New Jersey law, surviving relatives may file a wrongful death claim to recover compensation for:
- Medical expenses from the victim’s emergency treatment and final care
- Funeral and burial costs following the loss
- Lost income, benefits, and financial support the deceased would have provided
- Loss of companionship, guidance, and emotional comfort for surviving family members
