Pedestrian Accidents in New Jersey
Pedestrian accidents are among
the most severe types of roadway collisions. When a pedestrian is struck by a vehicle, the resulting injuries are often catastrophic, including traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord damage, broken bones, and internal injuries. Recovery frequently requires extensive medical care and prolonged rehabilitation.
In New Jersey, pedestrians injured in traffic accidents may have the right to pursue compensation for their losses. Depending on the circumstances of the crash, compensation may include:
- Medical expenses: Pedestrian accident injuries often require emergency treatment, hospitalization, surgeries, diagnostic testing, medications, physical therapy, and ongoing medical care. Compensation can help cover both current and future medical costs.
- Lost wages: Serious injuries can prevent victims from working for extended periods. Compensation may help recover lost income during the recovery process.
- Loss of earning capacity: If injuries permanently limit a victim’s ability to work or force them into a lower-paying role, compensation can address reduced future earning potential.
- Pain and suffering: Pedestrian accident victims may endure significant physical pain, emotional distress, and psychological trauma. Compensation may be available for these non-economic damages.
- Long-term care: Life-altering injuries may require ongoing care, including in-home assistance, mobility devices, home modifications, and long-term therapy.
Pedestrian accident claims can be complex, and working with an experienced pedestrian accident lawyer in Newark can help victims protect their rights, identify liable parties, and pursue the compensation they deserve.
