Compensation After Pedestrian Accidents in New Jersey
Pedestrian crashes often cause severe
or life-threatening injuries because victims have no physical protection at the time of impact. These incidents can result in cardiac arrest, traumatic brain injuries, spinal damage, fractures, internal injuries, and other serious complications that may require ongoing, long-term care.
In New Jersey, victims of pedestrian accidents, or their families, may have the right to pursue compensation depending on the circumstances of the crash. This may include:
- Medical expenses: Emergency treatment, hospitalization, imaging tests, surgeries, and rehabilitation can create overwhelming medical bills. Compensation may help cover both current and future care needs.
- Lost wages: Severe injuries often prevent victims from working during recovery. Compensation may cover income lost during this period.
- Loss of earning capacity: If a victim suffers permanent or long-term injuries that limit their ability to work, compensation can help address the resulting reduction in future earnings.
- Pain and suffering: Pedestrian crashes frequently lead to significant physical pain and emotional trauma. These non-economic damages recognize the impact on a victim’s quality of life.
- Long-term care needs: Serious injuries may require ongoing therapy, mobility aids, home modifications, or continuous medical monitoring.
Because pedestrian accident claims can be complex, victims and their families often benefit from working with a New Jersey pedestrian accident lawyer. An experienced attorney can manage insurance matters, determine liability, and pursue full and fair compensation.
