What Happens When a Left-Turning Vehicle Causes a Fatal Motorcycle Crash in NJ?

Left-turn crashes are among the most common causes of serious motorcycle collisions, since drivers turning across oncoming traffic often misjudge a motorcycle’s speed or fail to see it at all due to its smaller profile.

Being ejected from a motorcycle commonly results in catastrophic injuries such as traumatic brain injury, spinal damage, or fatal internal injuries, since riders have no structural protection comparable to a vehicle’s frame. Even motorcyclists who wear proper safety gear face serious risk in left-turn collisions, given the speeds typical of a highway like Route 33.

New Jersey’s wrongful death statute gives a personal representative of the estate two years from the date of death to file a claim, generally on behalf of a surviving spouse, children, or other dependents, separate from any survival action addressing the pain the victim experienced before death.

In these cases, a wrongful death lawyer can work to secure evidence specific to left-turn cases, such as traffic signal timing data, witness statements, and any available dashcam or surveillance footage from nearby businesses.

Losing a loved one in a crash like this one brings questions that often feel overwhelming at first. Our team at Garces, Grabler & Lebrocq can help walk through what a wrongful death claim might look like under New Jersey law.
