Logan Twp, NJ – Explosion at Pureland Industrial Complex Leaves 4 Critically Injured
Logan Twp, NJ (March 5, 2026) – On Wednesday afternoon, March 4, at approximately 2:30 p.m., four people were critically injured in an explosion at Savita Naturals, a commercial cocoa butter processing facility located in the Pureland Industrial Complex in Swedesboro, which sits in Gloucester County.
According to Mayor Frank Minor and Rebecca Forand, public information officer for the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office, the blast occurred inside the building, which stores a large amount of propane used for cocoa butter processing.
Emergency crews responded immediately. Three victims were transported to Cooper University Hospital, including two trauma patients, and one was taken to a hospital in Philadelphia. Another person suffered a medical emergency during the response and was also transported to a nearby hospital.
The explosion caused extensive damage to the facility and neighboring buildings, including a partial collapse of one building. A shelter-in-place order for a 2-mile radius near Heron Drive and High Hill Road was issued for nearly two hours but was lifted shortly before 5 p.m., though the 600 block of Heron Drive remains closed.
Fire and hazmat crews remained on scene monitoring the burn-off of additional fuel products while air quality was being monitored.
“This is the largest industrial accident I can recall in my 25 years at the department,” said Logan Township Police Chief Joseph Flatley. Officials continue to investigate the causes of the explosion.
We hope those injured make a swift and full recovery after this serious incident.
