How Long Do Families Have to File a Wrongful Death Claim in Southampton Township, NJ?

Teen Killed in E-Bike Crash at Tranquility CtIn New Jersey, your family generally has two years from the date of death to file a wrongful death claim. Missing that deadline can end the right to seek compensation. The clock usually starts on the day your loved one died.

After losing a child, a legal deadline may feel impossible to think about. Still, the two-year window continues, no matter how painful the loss is. Waiting can also make it harder to secure truck records, witness statements, and intersection footage.

When a wrongful death claim moves forward, your family may seek funeral costs, burial expenses, lost financial support, and the loss of companionship, guidance, and services. Medical bills from treatment before death may also matter. Each loss must be reviewed carefully.

In Southampton Township, roads like North Firelane Road, Red Lion Road, and Route 206 carry residential drivers, cyclists, and commercial vehicles. E-bike riders often share space with delivery trucks. That size difference can make a collision deadly.

If a UPS truck is involved, the claim may involve more than the driver. UPS may share responsibility through vicarious liability if the driver was working at the time. Company records can help show what happened.

Before the two-year deadline passes, a New Jersey wrongful death lawyer can request maintenance logs, driver schedules, delivery route data, and crash reports. These records may sit with the company. Early action helps protect the evidence your family needs.

Because these cases involve grief, deadlines, insurance companies, and corporate records, your family should not have to manage everything alone. At Garces, Grabler & LeBrocq, we help New Jersey families file wrongful death claims after fatal crashes.
