Newark, NJ – Woman Killed After Pickup Truck Crashes Into Laundromat on Irvington Ave
Newark, NJ (April 27, 2026) – A woman died on Monday, April 27, after a pickup truck crashed into a parked SUV and sent both vehicles into a laundromat at 515 Irvington Avenue in Newark. The crash happened at approximately 2:30 p.m. at a strip mall housing the Ivy Hill Laundromat.
The victim was sitting at a table near the front of the laundromat when a white pickup truck struck a parked white SUV outside. The force of the impact pushed both vehicles through the storefront. Emergency units responded to the scene, and responders pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
The owner of the parked SUV, Keeley Mitchell, told reporters she had parked outside and gone in to pick up her laundry when the crash occurred. She described the collision as a sudden and violent impact.
Witnesses estimated that between eight and ten people were inside the laundromat at the time of the crash. An employee also suffered injuries in the collision. Authorities have not released details about the employee’s condition or the identity of the pickup truck driver.
The investigation into this accident remains open.
We extend our sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of the woman who lost her life.
Evidence Needed to File a Wrongful Death Claim in Newark, NJ
Filing a wrongful death claim in Newark requires solid evidence connecting another party’s negligence to your loved one’s death. Key pieces of evidence typically include the official police report, surveillance footage, witness statements, medical and autopsy records, scene photos, and documentation of the victim’s earnings and funeral expenses.
One of the most important pieces of evidence in any wrongful death case is the official police report. In a crash, the report documents the time, location, and circumstances of the collision, identifies the vehicles and parties involved, and notes any initial observations about what may have caused the accident. Families should request a copy of the report as early as possible, since it forms the foundation of most claims.
Surveillance footage can also play a critical role in cases involving vehicle crashes into buildings or public spaces. Strip malls, businesses, and nearby traffic cameras often capture the moments leading up to a collision. Acting quickly to preserve this footage matters, since many cameras overwrite their recordings within days.
Witness statements add important context to a wrongful death case. Collecting names and contact information from witnesses at or near the scene helps ensure their accounts are available later.
Medical and autopsy records document the cause of death and link the fatal injuries directly to the crash. These records become essential when establishing that the accident (and not another factor) caused the victim’s death. Alongside these, any photos taken at the scene, documentation of the victim’s earnings and contributions to the family, and records of funeral and burial expenses all help build a more complete picture of the losses the family has suffered.
New Jersey law gives families two years from the date of death to file a wrongful death lawsuit. While two years may seem like a long time, evidence can disappear quickly and witnesses’ memories fade. A consultation a Newark wrongful death lawyer early in the process helps protect the family’s ability to pursue the claim fully.
