Newark, NJ - Girl Injured in Hit-&-Run at Irvine Turner Blvd & Spruce St

Newark, NJ (April 3, 2025) – A young girl was critically injured after a pedestrian accident in the Newark area on Tuesday, April 2. The incident took place at the corner of Turner Boulevard and Spruce Street early that morning at around 7:30 a.m. Local reports revealed that the mother, Sharon Johnson, was crossing the street with three children at the time of the incident. 

It was revealed that the driver of a gray sport utility vehicle hit another car before moving quickly into the left turn and hitting a nine-year-old girl. The at-fault driver fled the scene without providing aid to the involved party. Two other drivers gave chase after the incident, but the driver got away. The injured pedestrian was transported by ambulance to University Hospital in serious condition. She reportedly suffered six fractures on her ribs on the left side and a slash to the liver. No further information on the incident is currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the accident is being managed by local law enforcement officials.
