Mansfield Twp, NJ – One Killed, Several Hurt in River Light Rail Accident

Mansfield Twp, NJ (October 14, 2024) – Early on Monday, October 14, one person was killed and several others were injured after an accident involving a light rail train in Mansfield Township. The deadly crash took place near US-130 early that morning around 6 a.m. There were 45 passengers on board the train when a tree came down onto the track.
Emergency crews were rushed to the scene to provide the necessary aid. A piece of the tree was reportedly underneath the train. The NJ Transit River Line was closed in both directions as a result of the incident. The nearby highway was also shut down as emergency units worked the scene. The train operator was reportedly trapped inside. One person involved sustained fatal injuries, and initial reports revealed that six were injured. No updates on the incident are currently available.
