Driver Arrested After Fatal Hit-and-Run on Rte 22 in Watchung, NJ
Watchung, NJ (August 24, 2026) – Watchung Police Department officers and the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office responded early Saturday, August 22, to a fatal hit-and-run crash on Route 22 West near Mountain Avenue.
Police found a 56-year-old Brooklyn man lying in the roadway with fatal injuries. Authorities pronounced the victim dead at the scene and confirmed the striking vehicle had fled.
Investigators subsequently identified the driver and located his Nissan Pathfinder with severe front-end damage at his home. Police arrested him later on Saturday, charging him with knowingly leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and hindering apprehension.
