What Pays My Medical Bills After a Bicycle Accident in Delaware Township, NJ?
In most New Jersey cases, the injured person’s auto insurance may pay medical bills first through personal injury protection coverage. PIP generally covers necessary medical expenses regardless of who caused the crash. This protection may also cover an insured person while riding a bicycle.
For cyclists with household coverage, PIP may come from a policy held by the rider or a resident relative. When no household auto policy applies, another source of coverage may become responsible. The payment order depends on the available policies and the facts of the crash.
Across rural Hunterdon County, cyclists regularly use Route 523, Sergeantsville Road, and Route 12. Narrow shoulders and limited sightlines can increase the risk of serious collisions. Long distances from trauma centers may also lead emergency crews to request air transport.
When a flight bill arrives, the cost can place sudden pressure on an injured person and their family. Helicopter transportation may cost tens of thousands of dollars before hospital charges are added. Available PIP benefits depend on the limits provided by the applicable policy.
After PIP benefits run out, health insurance may cover part of the remaining balance. Other medical-payment benefits may also help with charges that PIP does not fully cover. Keep transport records, bills, insurance notices, and denial letters together for review.
If questions arise about insurance coverage, a bicycle accident attorney can review the available policies and determine which insurer should pay first. A lawyer can also challenge an improper denial or underpayment.
