Two Injured After Crash on I-295 Sends Utility Truck into Tributary

West Deptford, NJ (February 26, 2026) – Emergency crews responded Wednesday morning, February 25, after a crash along Interstate 295 northbound in West Deptford sent a utility truck off the roadway and into a nearby tributary.

According to officials, the collision occurred just before 7:30 a.m. when a car traveling in the center lane struck a utility truck in the right lane. The impact forced the utility truck off the highway, down an embankment, and into the Hessian Run Tributary.

Authorities stated that the truck narrowly missed a New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) Safety Service Patrol operator who had been assisting a stranded motorist on the right shoulder at the time of the crash.

Two Johnson Specialized Towing operators working as NJDOT contractors for snow duty reportedly witnessed the incident and immediately stopped to help. Officials said the tow truck operators scaled down the embankment, entered the water, and freed the trapped utility workers by cutting their seatbelts. The NJDOT patrol operator remained above to assist in safely bringing the victims back up to the roadway.

Both individuals were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

In addition to the crash, officials reported a significant fuel spill into the tributary. The crash remains under investigation by local authorities.

We send our best wishes to the injured victims while they recover.

How Insurance Claims Work After a Truck Crash in New Jersey

Being involved in a truck crash in New Jersey can beTwo Injured After Crash on I-295 Sends Utility Truck into Tributary overwhelming, especially when it comes to handling insurance claims. Understanding the process can help you protect your rights and ensure you receive fair compensation for your injuries, property damage, and other losses.

After a truck accident, the first step is to notify your insurance company. Provide them with accurate details about the crash, including the location, time, and a description of what happened.

Truck accidents often involve multiple insurance policies, such as the truck driver’s personal coverage, the trucking company’s liability insurance, and your own auto insurance. Because commercial trucks carry higher insurance limits, claims may be more complex than typical car accidents. Adjusters from the trucking company’s insurer may investigate the accident to determine fault and liability. They may request statements, accident reports, and medical records. It is important to be cautious during this stage, as anything you say could be used to reduce the payout.

New Jersey operates under a comparative negligence system, meaning your compensation may be reduced if you are partially at fault for the crash. Insurance companies will consider all factors, including road conditions, driver behavior, and vehicle maintenance records. Negotiating a settlement often requires careful review of medical bills, lost wages, and long-term care needs.

In many cases, hiring a truck accident attorney can help ensure that insurance companies handle your claim fairly. Attorneys can communicate directly with insurers, gather necessary evidence, and advocate for the compensation you deserve. While the process may take time, understanding the steps involved, from reporting the accident to negotiating a settlement, can reduce stress and increase your chances of receiving a fair outcome.
