Toms River, NJ (January 26, 2026) – A fatal motor vehicle accident claimed the life of a 76-year-old man on Friday night, January 23, at the intersection of Route 37 and Romano Lane in Toms River.

According to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, the crash occurred at approximately 8:50 p.m. when a white Nissan Maxima traveling westbound on Route 37 struck a red Chevrolet Trax that was crossing the highway from Romano Lane. 

The impact caused significant damage into the passenger compartment of the Chevrolet Trax. Emergency responders extricated the victim, who sustained critical injuries. Despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead as a result of the injuries suffered in the crash.

The driver of the Nissan Maxima was transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries, including a broken femur and possible head injuries. 

The Toms River Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit–Vehicular Homicide Squad and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit. The investigation remains ongoing.
