Emergency responders arrived at the scene around 7:13 p.m. on October 13th, finding a Hyundai Sonata that had been hit by a Jeep Liberty. The driver and two passengers in the Hyundai sustained serious injuries and were taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, where Ramakrishnan was later pronounced dead.

We offer our condolences to the victim’s family.
Understanding Wrongful Death Claims in New Jersey
Wrongful death claims in New Jersey arise when a person dies due to the negligent or intentional actions of another party. These cases can stem from various circumstances, including car accidents, medical malpractice, workplace incidents, or criminal activities. When a wrongful death occurs, surviving family members may seek compensation for their loss, encompassing medical expenses, funeral costs, loss of income, and emotional suffering.
To establish a wrongful death claim in New Jersey, certain key elements must be proven:
- Negligence: The plaintiff must demonstrate that the defendant’s actions were negligent or reckless, leading to the fatal incident. For instance, if a driver was intoxicated or distracted, they could be deemed negligent in a car accident case.
- Causation: There must be a direct link between the defendant’s actions and the victim’s death. The plaintiff must show that the negligent behavior was a significant factor in causing the accident that resulted in the death.
- Damages: The surviving family members must provide evidence of the damages incurred due to the wrongful death. This includes not only tangible losses, such as medical bills and lost wages, but also intangible losses like pain and suffering, loss of companionship, and emotional distress.
Wrongful death claims serve as a vital means for families to seek justice and financial relief after losing a loved one due to someone else’s negligence or intentional actions.
