Pequannock, NJ – Silverio Mazzella Killed, Man Charged in Fatal Truck Crash on Route 23 near Alexander Ave
Pequannock, NJ (May 16, 2023) – The police confirmed that 57-year-old Silverio Mazzella lost his life as a result of a rear-end truck accident that took place in Pequannock on Monday morning. The accident was reported at around 5:15 a.m. on May 15.
Reports from the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office indicate that 45-year-old Angel Carabello-Maldona was allegedly using his cell phone while operating a garbage truck on Route 23 during the morning hours. As a result, he slammed his vehicle into the rear end of an SUV.
The impact of the collision caused both vehicles to burst into flames. The driver of the SUV, identified as Mazzella, was trapped inside his vehicle. Authorities had to extricate the victim. Despite medical efforts, Mazzella ended up passing away from his injuries at the scene.
At this time, the incident remains under investigation.
