Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in New Jersey

Every day, reckless drivers strike innocent people crossing the street, seriously injuring or even killing them in the process. These accident victims are far too frequently elderly people or helpless children. Nevertheless, there were 220 pedestrian fatalities in 2021—a sharp increase from the year before. That is an increase of about 23 percent in just one year. The rise in pedestrian deaths in New Jersey is indicative of an issue that is becoming more widespread in the country. According to preliminary data from the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA), there was a nationwide increase in pedestrian fatalities from 6,412 in 2019 to over 6,700 in 2020.
