Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in New Jersey
Statistics from 2021 show that a total of 220 pedestrians died as a result of automobile collisions that took place statewide. This accounts for approximately 30 percent of total traffic-related fatalities. The unfortunate truth is that no matter how many steps our state takes to protect pedestrians from suffering unexpected injuries and the loss of life as a result of accidents, we continue to see innocent people die as a result of negligent and reckless drivers sharing the road.
Pedestrian accidents can often be attributed to negligence. It is all too common for us to lose loved ones as a result of pedestrian accidents caused by drivers who are speeding. Traveling too fast can make it difficult for drivers to maintain control of their vehicles and stop in time to avoid crashing into pedestrians who may be walking in the area.
Another common factor in fatal pedestrian accidents is distractions. When drivers have their attention off of the road ahead, they are unlikely to see pedestrians who may be traveling nearby. As a result, there is an increased risk that they may strike them and cause severe and fatal injuries.
Other factors that commonly contribute to fatal pedestrian accidents in our state include impairment, reckless driving behaviors, and failing to yield. The unfortunate truth is that these and other acts of negligence continue to take the lives of hundreds of people across our state every single year. If your loved one has died as a result of a fatal pedestrian accident, you should seek guidance and assistance from a New Jersey wrongful death lawyer immediately.
After experiencing the loss of a loved one, your family has the ability to pursue a wrongful death claim against the responsible party to recover financial compensation for your losses. An attorney will provide you with the best chance of maximizing the compensation you are able to recover.
