Lakehurst, NJ – Three Injured in Car Crash on Route 70 near Route 547

Lakehurst, NJ (July 21, 2023) – A multi-vehicle accident reported in the Lakehurst area on Wednesday afternoon sent several victims to area hospitals with injuries.

At around 12:10 p.m. on July 19, emergency officials were dispatched to provide assistance on-site at a crash on Route 70.

Reports from local law enforcement show that 52-year-old James Russen was driving a Lexus vehicle west along Route 70 when he crashed into a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox. The Chevrolet was driven by 43-year-old Wendy Mitchell. The impact of the crash sent the Equinox flying off the roadway. The Lexus continued forward and collided with a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee, which was being driven by 49-year-old Sharonda Ashworth.

Authorities arrived at the scene and located the three damaged vehicles on Route 70 near Route 547. At least one tow truck was requested to remove the vehicles from the scene.

The three victims were transported to Community Medical Center in Toms River, New Jersey, for medical care.

At this time, investigations into the crash are underway.

We hope James Russen, Wendy Mitchell, and Sharonda Ashworth recover quickly.

Car Accidents in New Jersey

Each year, car accidents in New Jersey result in tens of thousands of individuals being hospitalized with injuries. Sadly, many innocent victims suffer harm due to negligence, including impaired driving, distractions behind the wheel, and driver fatigue.

If you have been injured in a crash caused by someone else’s negligence, you may have legal options. In New Jersey, personal injury lawsuits operate under a no-fault system, where the driver’s own insurance provider covers some damages resulting from the accident.

However, to seek full compensation for the remaining damages, filing a personal injury lawsuit is necessary. In New Jersey, awards are determined based on comparative negligence, meaning the compensation amount is reduced by the percentage of fault assigned to each party. This can be complex, highlighting the critical importance of consulting with a car accident lawyer in New Jersey to navigate the process effectively.
