Pedestrian Accidents in New Jersey

Pedestrian accidents take place far too often in New Jersey. In fact, statistics show that pedestrian fatalities account for approximately one-third of all traffic-related deaths reported annually in our state. Thousands of additional pedestrians are left with serious injuries as a result of accidents that take place on our roads every year. There are several factors that account for the increase in the number of serious pedestrian accidents that we see take place.

Over the past decade, we have seen a dramatic increase in the number of people purchasing light trucks and SUVs across the state. When these vehicles are involved in accidents, pedestrians are more likely to suffer severe and life-threatening injuries and accidents.

We have also seen a significant increase in the number of distracted drivers that are traveling on roads here in the Garden State. Regrettably, when drivers are not paying attention to the road ahead, they are more likely to cause severe harm to pedestrians if they are involved in accidents.

Finally, we have witnessed a drastic increase in the amount of drivers who are traveling above the posted speed limits. Even though every road in our state has a speed limit for vehicles to travel at safely, we continue to see drivers cause devastating accidents due to their willingness to go above these limits. When pedestrians are involved in accidents with speeding drivers, they are more likely to suffer serious injuries that drastically alter their lives.

Common injuries that are reported in pedestrian accidents across New Jersey include:

  • Severe spinal cord injuries.
  • Severely broken bones or compound fractures.
  • Internal organ injuries that can be life-threatening.
  • Significant cuts and lacerations.
