Bicycle Accidents in New Jersey

Every day, innocent people are hurt as a result of accidents with motor vehicles that take place right here in the state of New Jersey. In some instances, people involved in these accidents are using bicycles. This method of transportation is incredibly healthy and cost-effective, however, it can be extremely dangerous when sharing the road with negligent and reckless drivers. We see many bicyclists left with severe injuries as a result of car crashes that take place in our state every year.

There are many reasons why bicycle accidents continue to happen so frequently. Some of the most common causes of these accidents include:

  • When the driver who is at fault for the accident runs a stop sign or passes a red light.
  • When the driver exits an alley or a driveway without looking.
  • When a vehicle enters the bike lane and sideswipes the bicyclist.
  • When a driver is distracted by their cell phone or another object or activity.

Even though helmets and pads can help to protect cyclists, the unfortunate truth is that a bicycle is truly no match for a car during a collision. Although drivers are supposed to follow the laws when sharing roads with bicycle riders and other pedestrians, there are many cases where they fail to do so.
