Freehold Township, NJ – Man Killed in Pedestrian Crash on US Route 9 between County Route 522 & State Route 33

Freehold Township, NJ (February 1, 2023) – A pedestrian accident reported on Monday evening in Freehold Township claimed one man’s life. Just after 6:45 p.m. on January 30, the freehold Township Police Department was called to the scene of a traffic crash that took place on US Route 9.

Preliminary crash investigations indicate that a 35-year-old man was walking near the southbound side of U.S. Route 9 when he was struck by a 2008 Toyota Camry, which was driven by a 55-year-old man from Lakewood, New Jersey.

The police and firefighters responded to the scene of the accident and blocked off multiple southbound lanes between County Route 522 and state Route 33.

The pedestrian suffered severe injuries due to the crash. Despite the best efforts provided by emergency medical services personnel, the victim passed away at the scene.

The driver of the Toyota was not injured in the crash.

The circumstances surrounding the traffic collision are currently being investigated by the Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART), the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, and the freehold Township Police Department.
