Bicycle Accidents in New Jersey

More than 10,000 bicyclists are hurt as a result of crashes that take place in the United States every month. These incidents at up to more than 130,000 people suffering debilitating injuries following bicycle accidents in our country. Here in New Jersey, we see a significant number of bicyclists harmed as a result of accidents caused by negligent drivers.

One of the most common factors in this type of accident is drivers who are distracted. When drivers are not paying attention to the road ahead, they may not see bicyclists traveling nearby. Common distractions that lead to bicycle accidents across our state include:

  • Drivers who are using their cell phones while operating their vehicles.
  • Drivers who are eating while behind the wheel.
  • Drivers who are having conversations with their passengers.
  • Drivers who are rubbernecking.
  • Drivers who are changing their radio or looking at their GPS.

In addition to distractions, we see a significant number of automobile accidents take place as a result of drivers who are traveling too fast for road conditions, under the influence of drugs, impaired by alcohol, or otherwise negligent.

It is absolutely critical that drivers maintain control of their vehicles in order to keep themselves and others around safe. When drivers fail to do so, they can cause serious accidents that leave victims with debilitating injuries.
