Oldmans Twp, NJ – Two Brothers Die in Bicycle Crash on Stumpy Ln
Oldmans Twp, NJ (August 30, 2024) – Two brothers were killed after a bicycle accident in the Oldmans Township area on Tuesday, August 27. The deadly crash was reported on Stumpy Lane late that night around 8 p.m. Local reports revealed that the victims were riding bikes near the fog line on County Road 551 when they were hit by a Jeep Cherokee driven by Sean Higgins.
Local reports revealed that Higgins used the oncoming lane to pass a sedan when he hit the cyclists. The SUV in front of Higgins reportedly moved over to safely pass the riders, causing Higgins to enter oncoming traffic and strike the victims. Both victims suffered fatal injuries in the impact. The deceased parties were later identified as Johnny Gaudreau of the National Hockey League (NHL) and his brother. It is believed that Higgins was under the influence of alcohol. He is currently facing two charges of death by auto. No further information on the deadly accident is currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the fatal crash is underway.
We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased victims at this time.
Deadly Bicycle Accidents in New Jersey
The Garden State experienced a lot of pedestrian accidents in 2021. Statistics show that in that year, 22 people died while riding bikes, and 204 people died while traveling on foot. The state hasn’t seen this many people in pedestrian-related accidents in one year since 1989. Unfortunately, cyclists make up a large number of roadway fatalities each year. Because they lack the same level of protection, riders are much more likely to be killed or seriously hurt in a collision. If someone you care about is killed in a biking accident, you should be ready to file a claim for compensation by working with a skilled legal team.
