New Providence, NJ – Several Hurt in Pileup Rear-End Crash on I-78
New Providence, NJ (August 10, 2024) – There were multiple injuries after a multi-vehicle collision in the area of New Providence on Friday, August 9. The crash occurred on Interstate 78 WB near mile marker 43 at around 5:01 p.m. Local reports revealed that a westbound Honda Odyssey minivan collided with the back of a parked New Providence patrol vehicle on the west shoulder.
The patrol car had flashing lights engaged at the time of the impact. The crash caused a chain-reaction accident involving a second patrol vehicle and a Mercedes-Benz that had been stopped by officials. Emergency crews were rushed to the scene, and two police officers were transported to Morristown Memorial Hospital for treatment of sustained injuries. The driver of the Honda was also hurt and hospitalized at the same medical facility. The occupants of the Mercedes-Benz were treated at the scene by attending medical personnel. No updates on the crash are currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the accident is being managed by local law enforcement officials.
