Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in New Jersey

Fatal pedestrian accidents take the lives of thousands of people in the United States each year. In fact, fatal pedestrian accidents account for roughly 17% of all fatal accidents reported in our country. Losing a loved one as a result of one of these accidents can be incredibly difficult to deal with. Unfortunately, many people die due to drivers who are negligent.

One of the most common causes of fatal pedestrian accidents that we see here in New Jersey is speeding drivers. Drivers who are traveling too fast often do not provide themselves with enough time to stop in order to avoid a collision with a pedestrian who may enter the roadway or try to cross nearby.

In addition to speeding, we see many people hurt as a result of pedestrian accidents caused by drivers who are distracted. Texting on the phone or even eating while behind the wheel can have serious consequences. Distractions take the attention of the driver off the road and place other people nearby at risk.

Another common cause of pedestrian accidents can be inclement weather conditions or dark road conditions. When drivers have impaired visibility while traveling on New Jersey roadways, there is a significant chance that they may not see a pedestrian nearby. Dark road conditions, heavy fog, heavy rain, and snow can all prevent a driver from seeing a pedestrian in the area.
