Hope, NJ – Motorcyclist Desmond A. Gomes Killed in Christopher Columbus Highway (I-80) Truck Accident near MM 11.6

Hope, NJ (February 12, 2023) – The New Jersey State Police have confirmed that 32-year-old Desmond A Gomes of Jersey City, New Jersey, has died as a result of a motorcycle crash involving a commercial truck that occurred on Saturday evening, February 11.

According to preliminary reports provided by the New Jersey State Police, at around 5:20 p.m., Gomes was riding a Honda motorcycle west on Christopher Columbus Highway when he was rear-ended by a Volvo tractor-trailer near mile marker 11.6.

Gomes was severely hurt in the accident. Authorities requested MEDIVAC to respond to the scene to transport the motorcyclist to an area hospital. However, he passed away from his injuries shortly after the collision.

The New Jersey State Police has launched an investigation into the crash. No other injuries were reported.
