Mansfield Twp, NJ – Fatal Freightliner Crash on NJ Tpke at MM 5.4
Mansfield Twp, NJ (May 2, 2025) – A Newark man was killed and his passenger injured after a collision in the Mansfield Township area on Tuesday, April 29. The fatal crash took place on the New Jersey Turnpike near mile marker 5.4 in Burlington County. It was later revealed that 25-year-old Oscar Lagoa Santos Jr. of Newark was driving a Ford E-350 pickup truck when he veered onto the right shoulder and hit an occupied, parked Freightliner truck.
Emergency crews were quickly dispatched to provide aid to the involved parties. Santos sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, 45-year-old Heliomar Dasilva, also of Newark, was transported to a local hospital for the treatment of serious injuries. The area was temporarily closed while emergency crews were present. No further information on the deadly accident is currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash is being managed by local law enforcement officials.
