What Injuries Are Common in Car Accidents in Clinton Township, NJ?
Car accidents in Clinton Township can cause neck and back strain, broken bones, head injuries, internal injuries, and cuts or bruises. The force of the collision, seat position, and use of a seat belt can affect how serious the harm becomes.
In New Jersey, your personal injury protection (PIP) coverage generally pays initial medical bills, regardless of who caused the crash. It may also cover part of your lost wages and certain necessary household services while you are unable to work.
Once PIP benefits are exhausted, you may seek payment from the at-fault driver’s liability coverage for qualifying losses. Depending on your policy and injuries, this may include remaining expenses, lost earnings, property damage, and pain and suffering.
Because New Jersey follows modified comparative negligence, your share of responsibility can reduce what you receive. If you are found more than 50% at fault, you generally cannot recover damages from a driver who carries less blame.
When drivers disagree about what happened, physical evidence may help clarify the sequence. Vehicle damage, roadway debris, photographs, video, and statements from people who saw the collision can support an account of how the vehicles came together.
While New Jersey generally allows two years to file a personal injury lawsuit, some cases have shorter notice requirements. Starting early also gives you more time to locate records and meet any deadline that applies to your situation.
If an insurer disputes fault or the extent of your losses, a car accident lawyer can handle communications and present supporting information. An attorney can also explain how PIP and the other driver’s insurance may apply to your claim.
